The drama of plastic landfills in Indonesia

The largest landfill in the world is located in Indonesia and receives between 6500 and 7000 tons of waste every day. It is located in Ciketing Udik, Bekasi, just south of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.

Another giant waste dump in Indonesia is in Marelan, Medan, North Sumatra Province.

According to a document from Indonesia's Environment Ministry, the country produced more than 30.8 million tons of waste in 2021 and 17.6 percent was plastic waste.
