Human trafficking is suspected
In recent years there have been repeated cases of groups of migrants crossing Mexico crammed into freight trucks heading north, writes El Pais. Tamaulipas is one of the northern states where human trafficking mafias operate.

The tragic finding
When Civil Defence officers arrived on the scene, they immediately found the lifeless bodies of a child and a woman. Later, when the fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire caused by the collision of the vehicles, more charred bodies appeared inside the heavy vehicle.

Human trafficking is increasingly common
According to initial reconstructions, some of the victims belong to the same family, which had rented the minibus to travel from the northern city of Monterrey to the eastern state of Veracruz. The use of trucks for human trafficking by organised crime is becoming more and more common, especially after the tightening of controls on the goods train lines that cross Mexico to the north.
