Tempest supersonic jet, the fighter of the future will become reality

It will be called Tempest and should be operational in 2035, with the start of the development phase in 2024. A sixth-generation supersonic jet intended to replace the current Eurofighter Typhoon currently used by Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain.

A project that, only for the development phase, could cost Japan, Great Britain and Italy more than 6 billion euros.

The program, officially called Global Combat Air Programme, breaks an old taboo for Japan: it is the first time since the end of World War II that Tokyo has chosen a partner other than the United States for a military project.

In addition to ensuring that the program can become "a cornerstone of global security, stability and prosperity in the decades to come".
