There is a Chinese spy balloon in the U.S., high tension risk

The United States are tracking a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon at high altitude.

The Chinese spy balloon spotted over the continental United States and monitored by the Pentagon flew over one of three U.S. nuclear missile fields,the Billings Malmstrom Air Force Base, in Montana.

Defense officials said that the Pentagon decided not to shoot it down because of the risk of harming people on the ground from falling debris.

A senior Defense official said that the United States is "very confident" that it is a Chinese high-altitude balloon that is flying over sensitive sites to gather intelligence.

From the Pentagon. General Patrick Ryder said that the U.S. government had been tracking the balloon for several days as it headed toward the north of the United States, adding that it "was traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and poses no military or physical threat to people on the ground."

It will not be torn down
Defense officials said that the Pentagon decided not to shoot it down because of the risk of harm to people on the ground from falling debris. They added that the balloon is flying above civilian air traffic and below "outer space," but would not specify how high it is.

China is working to verify the facts surrounding  the U.S. claims that Beijing flew a spy balloon over its territory, warning against "exaggerations" on the issue. "Verification is ongoing," commented the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, adding that "until the facts are clear, speculating and inflating the issue will not help resolve it properly."

A senior defense official said that the United States is "very confident" that this is a high-altitude Chinese balloon that is flying over sensitive sites to gather intelligence. "It is clear that the intent of this balloon is surveillance," the official said. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has convened a meeting of senior military and Defense leaders to review the balloon's threat profile and possible responses.
