Local authorities confirm the injured
According to the New York City Fire Department, at least five workers were injured, one of whom refused medical treatment. The department's chief of operations stated that the workers inside the building were carrying out normal car parking. One of them was trapped on the upper floors and had to be helped by rescuers to reach another building safely.

Authorities also used a robot dog with a camera to transmit video from inside the building as conditions were too unstable to allow rescuers access. This tragic event underlines the importance of ensuring the safety of multi-storey car parks through constant and careful maintenance. This will help prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.

The causes of the collapse of the multi-storey parking lot in New York
The fears that had already been raised in an article about the risk of collapse in multi-storey car parks due to the increased weight of today's cars and poor maintenance have unfortunately been realised. The causes of the collapse of the multi-storey car park in New York are still under investigation, but civil construction experts are already investigating possible structural and maintenance problems in the building. Kazimir Vilenchik, New York City's acting building commissioner, told a press conference that the building had several open violations dating back to 2003.
