FROM THE ROAD.

Distracted driver gets into trouble with his BMW Alpina Touring

A 77-year-old German holidaymaker got stuck with his BMW Alpina Touring car on a hiking trail due to his reliance on his navigation system, despite warnings from passers-by. The St. Gilgen fire brigade had to recover the car and the famous hiking trail was blocked for hikers.

The driver of the Alpina B3 Touring was guided by GPS to this village located on Lake Wolfgang in the Austrian state of Salzburg in the Salzkammergut region.

The left side of the car was moderately damaged, but the driver and passengers got out of the B3 Touring safe and sound. The police arrived at the scene of the strange accident and subjected the adventurous man to a breathalyser test.

A little distracted
The 77-year-old German chose to blindly trust his GPS instead of reading road signs and listening to warnings from passers-by telling him that cars were not allowed on that route.

Unlikely route
Although the path narrowed, this did not prevent the elderly driver from moving forward, until there was no more room to squeeze through. Images released by the fire brigade in Sankt Gilgen (Austria) show the performance car trapped between the anvil and the hammer, both literally and figuratively.
