North America burns, New York invaded by dust, smoke and ash: photos

North America is facing a huge fire emergency due to the flames that have broken out in Canada in recent days. This has caused huge blankets of smoke and ash to invade the Northeastern United States, even reaching New York City.

Local authorities advised against going out on the streets, and many events scheduled for these days, such as the New York City Marathon, were cancelled. According to the 'QAir World Quality Index', the Big Apple was the second most polluted city in the world after New Delhi. Also in the top 5 was Detroit, the American car capital, which is located right on the Canadian border.

It is not only New York that is struggling with smoke and ash. The US authorities estimate that around 100 million people are facing emergencies of various kinds. As if that were not enough, the National Weather Service has warned of a possible worsening in the coming days. Those most at risk are the elderly, children and pregnant women.

In the USA, it is not only New York that is suffering. In Philadelphia, health authorities are trying to convince people to 'avoid excessive outdoor physical activity and, if possible, to use a mask'. In Charlotte, North Carolina, people are breathing the worst air since 2016.

Canada is also suffering greatly from the fires, which were caused by the severe drought of the previous months. Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa are the places that are suffering the most from the dozens and dozens of fires that are tearing the country apart. Unfortunately, the situation is not likely to improve any time soon.
