Volocopter revolutionizes urban transportation with electric air cabs

On 4 April 2023, Volocopter announced the opening of its production facilities in Bruchsal (Germany), marking an important milestone in the company's history. The new hangar will house the company's final assembly line, with an airport to conduct development flight tests and quality checks.

All company-owned production sites, which will produce the first EASA-certified electric air taxis, will become fully operational in April. From this facility, electric air taxis produced in Germany will be distributed worldwide, offering commercial services from next year.

Production capacity
Volocopter's production facilities have the capacity - and more importantly the regulatory approval - to assemble over 50 VoloCity aircraft each year. And this is the latest step in the production configuration that Volocopter has expanded in Bruchsal over the past 18 months.

Certification as a Volocopter production organisation
As of 2021, the company holds the approval as a production organisation in accordance with EASA regulations. This certification covers the entire VoloCity production process. It includes the production of carbon fibre parts, all aspects of the electric propulsion unit, final assembly with coating of the propulsion system and fuselage, and end-of-line flight testing.

The ribbon cutting and test flight
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on 4 April 2023. The event also included a manned flight of the Volocopter 2X. Key guests included Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister of Digital Affairs and Transport; Winfried Kretschmann, Minister of State of Baden-Württemberg; Dr. Anna Christmann, Federal Government Coordinator for German Aerospace Policy, and more than 70 business and political representatives.

Volocopter 's plans for the future
The German company has pledged to launch commercial air-taxi services in cities such as Singapore, Rome, NEOM (Saudi Arabia) and Paris as early as 2024. Its mission is to transform urban transportation through air-taxis to be zero-emission, safe and convenient, improving people's quality of life and reducing the environmental impact of traffic.
