On May 1 at approximately 11:38 a.m., a Sully (Virginia - United States) Police District patrol officer was at a routine roadblock while checking a grey 2012 BMW 750 Series on the southbound Fairfax County Parkway before Braddock Road.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old man driving a black 2018 BMW M3 was travelling northbound on Fairfax County Parkway at high speed and lost control.

The BMW spun, crossed the median, striking the vehicle stopped at the checkpoint and then the officer's vehicle. It is clear from the sequence of images how miraculously the Sully police officer was saved.

First statements
"The vehicle lost control because cars can't go that fast on the highway," said Fairfax County Deputy Police Chief Bob Blakley.

Some considerations
Blakley also stated that the officer's decision to approach the car from the passenger side, and his decision to run and not stand still before the accident, potentially saved his life.

Some data on the teen accidents
There were three teenagers inside the car that, according to the police, caused the accident. Blakley said that compared to last year there was a 62 per cent increase in the number of fines handed out to young drivers for speeding. More than a 98 per cent increase when it comes to teenagers violating traffic signs. Blakley also stated that the number of fines given to teenagers for not paying attention to speeding in cars increased by 181 per cent.
