New excavations have begun in the central area of the Pompeii park.
The new excavations in the archaeological park of the city near Naples are part of the project started in Insula 10 of Regio IX, along Via di Nola.
This is a large area of about 3,200 square metres, almost an entire city block of the ancient city of Pompeii buried by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD.

New excavations have begun in the central area of the park of Pompeii (Italy). The archaeological site is known worldwide and attracts tourists from all over the globe.

It covers an area of about 3200 square metres, almost an entire city block of the ancient city of Pompeii buried by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The number of visitors
In 2019, the excavations of Pompeii attracted around 4 million tourists. After the forced stop during the pandemic, the archaeological site has once again become very popular with visitors. An estimated 3 million people will visit in 2022.
